Extreme Weather Risk

Zambia is a country that has experienced a big vulnerability to flash floods. Zambia also is extremely at risk for drought. When I was volunteering there I personally experienced this vulnerability to the drought as there was not enough water in the Zambezi River to power the country as they use water as the main power source. Because of this, there was only power where I was living for two hours every day usually in the middle of the night.  What makes these vulnerabilities even worse is the fact that Zambia has lots of  “Inadequate infrastructure paired with the fact that a large proportion of the population is rural and poor.” This can make these disasters so much more difficult for the people that live there. Below is a chart that helps truly show Zambia’s risk for extreme weather events.
